THE CONSORT TEAM
Esther Jong
Esther discovered her passion for music at the tender age of two, when she received her first musical instrument, an electone organ. At eight, she picked up the cello through her schooling in Perth, Western Australia, joining her school's string ensemble and participated in interschool collaborations too. During her adolescence, Esther self-explored a variety of other musical instruments such as piano, violin, flute, recorder, experimenting with different genres and even dabbling at composition too.
Her journey into sacred classical and operatic music began in 2021, when she became a chorister and cantor for the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth, most notably at St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Patrick's Basilica, Sacred Heart Church, Holy Rosary Church, regularly singing for weekly Mass, concerts, weddings and funerals. This exposed her to many intricate sacred works by Palestrina, Victoria, Bruckner, Poulenc, and rekindled her with her first instrument, the organ, as it was regularly featured as accompaniment for the church services.
Since returning to Singapore in late 2024, Esther has continued her music engagement by singing with the Immaculate Heart of Mary choir, the Singapore Lyric Opera and the Singapore Symphony Chorus. Esther also had the opportunity to lead and conduct a sacred music concert at Church of St. Teresa in May 2025. From this, she co-founded STELLA ÆTERNA CONSORT with the musicians she befriended along her journey!

An educator by profession, he managed to convince (or coerce) three of his former students to join this project! When not singing, he loves reading and hopes someday to finish all the 7,000 books in his personal library

Jean Chua
MEZZOSOPRANO
Jean’s life has always revolved around music. She played the flute and piano while growing up and, more recently, dabbled with the cello.
She started her adventure in choral music a little over a decade ago, when she joined a chamber choir as a reluctant soprano. Since then, she has had the privilege to sing repertoire ranging from intimate quartets to large symphonic works.
It is a happy coincidence that the first choral piece she sang was Ola Gjeilo’s Northern Lights. Being able to sing and perform it with STELLA ÆTERNA CONSORT for their January 2026 concert, felt like coming home.
When not singing or listening to music, she likes to read, practice yoga, and spend time with loved ones.

Five-years-ago, after a personal encounter with Christ, Rachel was baptised as a Roman Catholic and subsequently joined the Immaculate Heart of Mary choir at St Joseph's Church (Victoria Street).

Yen Phang
BASS
Yen started his choral journey in 2024, where he learnt stillness and present, not so much to sing, but more-so to "listen". The following year taught him how to "relax" and "have fun" through music making with others. This experience has led Yen to appreciate the voices and companionship of fellow choristers in groups like the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Voices of Singapore, and more.
Joining the STELLA ÆTERNA CONSORT project has been Yen's most intimate experience with both music and his own spirituality so far. Yen looks forward to what the choir experience might bring in 2026!
Isaac Chan
BASS (BASSO PROFONDO)
Having sung with school choirs and various projects over the last few years, choral singing has become a central part of Isaac's life. To that end, he looks forward to making music with STELLA ÆTERNA CONSORT project, perhaps as a last hurrah before his imminent National Service enlistment!
