OUR STORY
Founded in Singapore in 2025, STELLA ÆTERNA CONSORT (also known as Stella Aeterna Consort and abbreviated SAEC) emerged from a desire to explore the artistic, historical, and cultural traditions of Western Christian sacred music through thoughtful performance, education, and collaboration.
What began as a community-driven concert project has since grown into a Singapore-based sacred music collective dedicated not only to performance, but also to documentation, education, and the preservation of sacred musical heritage.
BEGINNINGS
The idea for SAEC developed through years of involvement in sacred music within Catholic communities, both in Australia and later in Singapore.
SAEC was established to create a platform where musicians could come together to explore this repertoire within its historical, artistic, and liturgical contexts. Rather than presenting isolated concerts, each project seeks to form part of a broader artistic narrative that encourages reflection, learning, and community engagement.
The collective presented its inaugural performance in November 2025 with An Evening of Remembrance, marking the beginning of an ongoing artistic journey.
BEYOND PERFORMANCE
Since its debut, SAEC has gradually expanded beyond concert presentation.
Alongside themed performances centred on the liturgical year, including All Saints, Epiphany, and Easter, the organisation has developed educational initiatives through programme notes, reflective journal articles, photography, film documentation, and digital archiving.
These projects seek to preserve not only performances themselves, but also the artistic ideas, historical contexts, and collaborative processes that surround them.
COLLABORATION AT THE HEART OF SAEC
Collaboration lies at the centre of SAEC's work.
Each project brings together musicians, churches, educators, composers, photographers, videographers, and volunteers whose individual strengths contribute towards a shared artistic vision.
The collective believes that meaningful artistic experiences emerge through attentive listening, mutual respect, and the willingness to create something greater than any individual could achieve alone.
A LIVING ARCHIVE
Beyond live performance, SAEC is developing a growing archive documenting its continuing engagement with the Western Christian sacred music tradition.
Through written reflections, programme notes, photography, film, and recorded performances, the organisation seeks to preserve an evolving record of sacred music practice in Singapore for present and future generations.
Rather than viewing concerts as isolated events, each project contributes to a larger body of work that continues to develop over time.
LOOKING AHEAD
As the organisation continues to develop, SAEC hopes to deepen its contribution to Singapore's sacred music landscape through performance, education, documentation, and meaningful artistic collaboration.
While remaining firmly rooted in Singapore, the collective also welcomes opportunities for cross-cultural exchange with musicians, composers, churches, and cultural organisations abroad, recognising sacred music as a shared artistic heritage that transcends geographical boundaries.
